Suggested Packing List
Moscow “Winter Camp” Trip
As you pack, remember that your appearance is a testimony.
Do not over-pack; plan to wear the same clothes for a few days, as the
Russians do.
Clothing Due to variable
temperatures (and snow), we suggest you plan to dress in layers!
- Backpack or hip pack - This is a safe way to keep valuables on your
body. You will want to keep your valuables and necessities close and
your hands free.
- Shoes - sturdy, warm, preferably waterproof hiking type shoe or boot.
- Coat - very warm (One that will keep you warm in below freezing temperatures
for several hours), preferably water-resistant
- Warm socks, hat and gloves
- Clothes for church. Men - a nice sweater or button up shirt and nice
pants
Ladies - a dress or blouse and skirt (below the knees, please, for modesty
and cold)
Medical/Toiletries
- Moistened wipes/Hand sanitizer
- Vitamins and cough drops
- Dramamine for motion sickness
- Anti-diarrhea medication. (ex. Pepto-Bismol)
- Medications. If you have medications, remember to bring them. It
can be very difficult and expensive to obtain medications overseas.
- Toilet paper – not all restrooms will be supplied
- Feminine hygiene items
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, and teeth cleaning products
- Towels and washcloths.
- Shampoo and soap
- Deodorant
- Glasses or contact cleaner
- Razor and shaving cream
- Chap Stick
- Blow dryer, curling iron, etc. (remember plug-in type items need
to be capable of 220 volts, and will also require an adaptor available
at places like Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, etc.)
Miscellaneous
- Snacks (Some will be provided for us)
- Flashlight with batteries. The smaller the flashlight, the easier
it will be to pack and carry.
- Travel alarm clock or watch with an alarm. This should be battery
operated.
- Extra batteries for your flashlight, alarm clock, etc.
- Bible and writing supplies. Compact Bibles are recommended. Remember
your Prepare Your Heart booklet; this will be your trip journal.
- A few Ziploc plastic bags are handy.
- Spending money for gifts. This should all be in US dollars and clean
crisp bills. Exchange any worn currency at your bank prior to your departure.
Russian banks can be selective and will not take worn or tattered bills.
You will be able to exchange currency at the hotels.
- Camera and extra film; Polaroids are fun for the kids.
- Photos of your family, and friends to show your new Russian friends.
- Book, personal DVD player, etc. for long trips on plane or bus
- Passport, tickets, and visa. Your trip will be unduly complicated
if any of these items are forgotten or misplaced at any time.
This is a suggested list; add whatever else you might need, but pack
as light as possible. We ask that you pack only one carry on and one check
in; you will be given another check in at the airport with donated items
for the children. It is also suggested that you pack enough in your backpack/carry
on for two days, in case your luggage is misplaced.
