SOAR’S WINTER CAMP
JANUARY, 2008

          This January our camp team arrived in Moscow, Russia to negative degree temperatures and snow on the ground. They faced difficulties the first day with the bus breaking down on the way to camp. After all of the team arrived, late that night, it gave them little time to prepare for the arrival of the kids the following morning. The total camp team consisted of the 12 members from SOAR and 11 members of the Russian staff.  The team had the opportunity to spend the week with 42 children. What a joy it was to see the team members and the children interact. Through crafts, sports activities, group time, and Bible lessons the team was able to share God’s love with the children. Throughout the week the children were encouraged and challenged by Grandpa Dub to memorize scripture. At the end of the week nearly all of the children had completed their memory verses.  The highlight of the week came when 5 of the boys, from a local orphanage, that attended the camp made professions of faith. Praise the Lord! Though it was difficult to see the kids go back to home and to the orphanage, the team was encouraged by the love that was shared while they were there. After the children left, the camp team joined up with the “Stuff-A-Stocking” team to finish out the last two days. The camp team was then able to see how the kids live when they go back to the orphanage and help distribute stockings. All of the camp team members said that this was one of the greatest experiences of their lives and has forever impacted them. Thank you for your prayers and support!
